As if knowing his days were numbered, Van Gogh painted more than 70 pictures in two months. He expressed joy discovering this picturesque village with humble cottages of grey and brown roofs. He paints heavenly in the sky, and as if to stimulate the texture of the thatch itself, changing the field into a green waterfall – giving the whole scene an aspect of fantasy.
