The site traces its roots back to 1997, when a team of web site developers at Emergent Media, Inc. decided to combine their love of cooking with their expertise on the Internet.
Realizing that the Internet had the ability to allow a worldwide community cookbook to be created and published, they decided to build a recipe exchange web site. Thousands of people submitted their tried-and-true family favorite recipes and over time, became loyal members of the Allrecipes.com community.
First to launch was CookieRecipe.com, which now contains more than 2,000 cookie recipes. Fueled by its success, the team launched dozens of new category specific sites from Appetizer recipes to Vegetarian recipes; a marketplace for kitchenware and speciality food items, and a newsletter, RecipeNotes, that now reaches more than 400,000 subscribers.
