Why shoes? Zappos.com was founded in June 1999 following a less than successful trip to a local shoe store. With brick and mortar stores limited by the size of their stock rooms, shoppers can only choose from a handful of styles the store buyer chooses from each brand (and pray that their size is in stock). Zappos.com decided that offering customers a complete selection of styles from each brand (in every size, width, and color) would make the shoe shopping experience a much more pleasurable one. With footwear catalog sales exceeding $2 billion in the U.S. annually (1 out of every 20 pairs of Shoes sold!), it was clear that shoppers are comfortable receiving their Shoes in the mail. Thus, Zappos.com was born!
To date, Zappos.com has shipped Shoes to well over 15,000 cities across the United States.
