About Danskin Women's Apparel
When you think of Danskin, you naturally think of active women and girls. Since 1882, the Danskin Brand has been synonymous with femininity, innovation, quality and superior comfort and fit. Founded as a small, family owned business catering to New York dancers, Danskin is the ultimate female active brand evolving with women for over 120 years to create the best in dancewear, active wear and comfortable clothes for an active lifestyle.
Our mission is simply to offer women Clothes for Living. This means feminine styles and comfort conscious designs made in performance fabrics such as O2 performance and Supplex with Lycra.
Danskin has set standards in the dance world with the first knit-tights and leotards and the introduction of fish net stockings and "Ballet Pink" and "Theatrical Pink" colored tights. This approach of high standards is universal to the Danskin Brand. You can see this commitment in our active, yoga and casual wear lines as well.
Danskin is the only premier brand committed exclusively to addressing the multi-faceted needs of today's active women and girls. We design clothes for fitness, sports and a comfort casual lifestyle in sizes ranging from 2T for girls to size 26 for women.
Team Danskin Then and Now
The women who have written our history
Trail blazers in Dance
They are nameless, but the professional ballet dancers of the late 1800s figure significantly into Danskin's history. These dancers motivated the Danskin family to go into the business of quality dancewear making better tights and dance wear than was available at the time. Who were these women? What would it take to be a professional dancer in 1882? Undoubtedly, she was intrepid, resolute and had a vision for the future. We thank these dancers for helping to build the Danskin legacy and inspiring our tradition of excellence. Their spirit lives on today in Danskin women.
First Steps Together
Generations of women bond around the memory of donning their Danskins as little girls. We seem to have a special place in the hearts of millions of women who share the vivid memory of stepping timidly into a dance studio for the first time. Wearing their new ballet pink tights, leotards and black ballet slippers they were transformed. Suddenly, they were confident and ready for more. Danskin followed these daring young women as they took up tap, ice skating and gymnastics.
Fashion meets Function
Suddenly, Danskin was no longer just for dance studios and stages. Women everywhere were making a fashion statement in Danskin wrap skirts, leotards and leg warmers. From international night clubs and high school dances to date night -- Danskin was the look!
New Choices
Dancers have always been strong athletes. Yet a new era of women athletes emerged in the eighties. Women were tapping into their physical strength in new ways. Danskin wanted to acknowledge this new attitude by sponsoring the emerging talents of the day. Some of the women were famous, others were merely inspiring. During this time we sponsored and supported the efforts of Ramona Trake, Rock Climber; Kerri Strug, Olympic Gymnast; Patty Dodd, Pro Beach Volleyball player; Shaun Stafford, NCAA Tennis Champion; Kristi Yamaguchi, Figure Skating Champion; Connie Young Olympic Cyclist; and many others. These women got us all moving.
A Race for Every Woman
In 1990 Danskin made a long-term commitment to women by introducing the Danskin Triathlon, the largest and longest-running series in multi-sport history! Over 120,000 women have completed the triathlon, many of whom have never participated in a sports event before. Some women do all three events, while others team up with friends designating a runner, a swimmer and a cyclist. In 2004, the Danskin Triathlon will visit eight cities and thanks to thousands of enthusiast women and our dedicated sponsors, this year we will break entrant records. This means our support for breast cancer will increase also. The Breast Cancer Research Foundation is the Official Charity for the 2004 Danskin Women's Triathlon Series receiving 10% of all entry fees. BCRF is a most deserving organization as a minimum of 85% of all funds raised by the Foundation goes directly to breast cancer research and awareness programs. Remember…
... "The Woman who starts the Race is not the same Woman who finishes the Race"
Determination wins the Race
Women cancer survivors have a unique opportunity to express themselves at the Danskin Triathlon. For ten years, Danskin has provided special training and support programs in many cities for women in various stages of treatment and recovery to prepare for the Danskin Triathlon. Nowhere is the spirit of the Danskin Triathlon more apparent than when Team Survivor members cross the finish line.
