Thomas Pink stores are bright and welcoming. The elegant surroundings include polished mahogany cabinets, oil paintings, fresh flowers and gentle music in the background. The size of the stores has increased since the first one opened in 1984 in Chelsea's Drayton Gardens (230 sq ft). The Jermyn Street flagship has a sales area of 3,500 sq ft and the New York flagship on Madison Avenue has a sales area of 4,300 sq ft.
In April 2000 the first ever stand-alone store dedicated entirely to women, named 'Pink Woman', opened on London's Sloane Street, with a sales area of 1,100 sq feet. It carries an exclusive line of women's Shirts and accessories, for business, leisure, fashion and evening, in a fresh and appealing setting for women.
It's a little-known fact that the phrase "in the pink" was inspired by our very own Thomas Pink. This legendary Mayfair tailor made his name in the late 18th century, creating hunting coats that were regarded as the finest in the land. If you wore a coat by Mr. Pink, you were definitely on top form - socially, financially, and, of course, sartorially.
Thomas Pink used only the most finely woven cloth, tailoring it into the perfect coat which outsmarted the Great British Winter and cut a dash in the field. For those in the know, only a 'Pink coat' would do.
