  • 650 judges and referees will participate in the Games.

  • 10,000 journalists and media operators are expected to cover the Games.
I'd like to highlight the disciplines for skiing.

There are six Olympic disciplines for skiing: alpine skiing; cross country skiing; freestyle skiing; nordic combined; ski jumping; and making its debut as an official Olympic sport this year, snowboard. According to the official Olympics website, skiing started off as a form of transportation, used by hunters to keep pace with game, and by soldiers patrolling snowy borders with drifts so deep, horses were rendered useless. Nowadays, skiing is an adrenalin-laced sport, with athletes flying down mountain faces embodying speed, endurance, dexterity and determination. Familiar names of U.S. athletes include Ted Ligety, who took home a gold medal for alpine skiing; Bode Miller; Lindsey Kildow; and Julia Mancuso.
